Word Study activities have included using the sound board, sorting routines, and ABC order. Surprisingly, third graders still love rainbow writing. We've renamed it fancy writing though because we use rainbows, dotted letters, and have begun to incorporate our cursive writing into it.
Writing is self explanatory. Students complete the writing assignment for the day. There are also themed classroom journals that students choose a page to add to the theme writing. We also use our silly story starters to work on other projects in the area.
One of our favorite stations is the tech station. This year I have 3 student iPads, 3 computers, and I include our listening station in the tech station. Students have been using MobyMax, LearnZillion, Math Ninja (I know not ELA, but it is learning), and HMH readers to work on individualized lessons to remediate, dig deeper, and to extend their learning.
The Daily Five ELA Station Rotation Master Schedule helps keep me on track with pulling my groups, making sure I am meeting my district's time requirement based on the students' levels, and is a visual for my adminstrators and I to document that we are using ELA time in the best way to meet students needs.
