Common Core addresses figurative language in both the reading literature and language standards. Idioms are just one way to begin exposing children to figurative language. Learning to identify, understand, and apply idioms to the situation can help children understand while reading and begin to use them in their own writing.
Idiom practice, available on TPT, introduces what an idiom is and identifying them when reading. Students will learn to use context clues to understand what the idiom is expressing. This resource also helps students to apply idioms to the situation and vice versa. Students are encouraged to draw and write about a variety of idioms.
This is a resource to help students explore how figurative language is used and how they can include it in their own writing.
